Mid-Senior Xero Accountant (Remote, Malaysia-based)

Job brief
We are seeking a mid- to senior-level accountant with strong Xero expertise to manage the full set of accounts for our clients' Hong Kong company, which is a global 360° creative agency and representation firm specializing in building, manufacturing, distributing, licensing, and scaling fan-driven brands, merchandise, and experiences across music, entertainment, gaming, and lifestyle. The role is remote (based in Malaysia) and requires hands-on experience in cross-border accounting to support our global business operations.
Responsibilities
- Handle the full set of accounts in Xero for a Hong Kong entity:
- Accounts payable & receivable
- Bank reconciliations
- General ledger management
- Expense claims & reimbursements
- Payroll coordination (with external payroll provider if needed)
- Fixed assets and depreciation
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with Hong Kong Financial Reporting Standards (HKFRS) or IFRS as required.
- Manage cross-border transactions:
- Multi-currency invoicing and settlements
- International vendor/customer transactions
- FX revaluation and reporting
- Withholding tax, VAT/GST, or relevant compliance matters
- Support the annual Hong Kong statutory audit and liaise with external auditors, tax agents, and banks.
- Prepare cash flow projections, budgets, and variance analysis to support management decisions.
- Ensure compliance with Hong Kong tax and corporate filing requirements, coordinating with service providers as needed.
- Provide recommendations to streamline financial processes and strengthen internal controls.
Requirements
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional qualification (e.g. ACCA, CPA, MICPA) preferred.
- 3 to 7 years of hands-on accounting experience, including full set of accounts.
- Strong experience using Xero (must be comfortable handling multi-currency, consolidation, and reporting features).
- Experience with Hong Kong companies and familiarity with HK tax, audit, and reporting requirements.
- Solid track record handling cross-border transactions (foreign currencies, overseas vendors/customers, tax implications).
- Strong analytical skills, detail-oriented, and excellent problem-solving ability.
- Proficient in English (both written and spoken); Cantonese/Mandarin is an advantage but not required.
- Able to work independently in a remote setup with minimal supervision.
